One year ago, on this very day, I stood amidst a sea of familiar faces at my ribbon-cutting ceremony. A new chapter in my life was beginning, one that I embraced with hope, determination, and an unwavering commitment to build a business that would stand as a testament to my values and strengths.
Reflecting on this transformative year, I am filled with a sense of fulfillment and a deep appreciation for the path I've chosen. This path represents a journey of self-discovery, experimentation, and learning that has not only shaped me but also laid the foundation for the way I advise, consult, teach, and show up in my personal life.
In these past 12 months I've challenged myself to the core, loosening my grip on almost everything and challenging myself to experiment and adapt. Recognizing that I, like everyone, hold a unique combination of strengths and opportunities to grow, I’ve pushed myself to delve deeper, dream bigger, and embrace the art of changing my mind.
I’ve connected with passionate people and remarkable organizations who share a common commitment to leading positive change. Through this experience building something completely new, I've come to realize that the path to success is marked not only by achievements but by the insightful lessons learned along the way.
The biggest lesson? Mindset is more powerful than many of us realize. Our thoughts hold incredible power—what we believe, we become. Our beliefs manifest in our actions, and the actions we take lead to our outcomes. This realization is at the heart of my work. When we allow default modes of thinking, we get stuck. But when we intentionally choose to challenge what we “know”, actively seek out new information, and decisively commit to a mindset rooted in the noble values of inclusion, equity, and belonging, we ourselves become the conduits of change that the world needs. How do these insights relate to the work I passionately engage in as a DEI and culture strategist? It's simple—organizational culture stems from a collective mindset. A culture rooted in shared values and beliefs extends beyond rhetoric and becomes the driving force that shapes behavior, decisions, and, ultimately, outcomes. Just as an individual's mindset influences their actions, an organization's culture guides its trajectory. Cultivating a healthy culture creates a dynamic competitive advantage, and it has been my honor to build trusted partnerships with so many of you who share this understanding.
